I chose The Great Depression because it was the biggest economic decline that spread through the Western industrialized world.
Having such a noteworthy event as my topic made it very accessible to find numerous sources that gave me a variety of different insight into The Great Depression. I first researched the cause, then the event itself, its effects, and the possibility of it happening again. I have had a hard time figuring out certain events and details I should keep or throw out because there are so many events that came along with The Great Depression.
I chose to make a website because it is the best option for my topic. I have so many different events and causes & effects. This allows me to add an unlimited amount of sub categories and make it look more organized and neat. I can also add hyperlinks to my pages going to another part on my website which correlates with it. This is very helpful because it is easier to show how details in different categories relate to each other. I can add pictures of what life was like during that time to add a greater effect to the theme taking a stand.
The Great Depression relates to the theme taking a stand because individual’s could not let the economic decline defeat them, they had fight for a better life. When the stock market crashed everyone panicked. Women had to step up and become a the man of the household. Everyone had to fight the struggles and be a leader to the community so people had faith for their community. President Hoover gives hope to the people that this is just something they have to get by and they will get through it. The only way life was going to get better was by being the one who fought back and never gave up. Franklin Roosevelt also stood up and took a stand against this failing society. He gave hope to the people that this is not the end and life can and will get better if they are willing to try and unify their society. People had a choice to let this economic decline ruin them or work harder to get back to the prospering economy they had before. The Great Depression is a crucial event to American history. It pushed America to have a stronger economic system and to avoid such a rapid decline ever again.
